KS3

Key Stage 3:

In KS3 students have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of Art and Design with a focus on developing key skills such as drawing, painting and 3D modelling whilst exploring the formal elements and developing their understanding of visual language. The course is designed to suitably prepare students for the demands of GCSE Art and Design as well as A-Level. Students enjoy the KS3 course and are fully supported by our enthusiastic staff.

In Year 8 students learn colour theory, painting techniques, observational drawing as well as have the opportunity to create functional vessels in clay.

In Year 9 students learn how to use perspective to create realistic drawings, they also explore 2D design and typography and its relevance in graphic design and advertising.

In Year 10 students begin the year by learning about the Cubist art movement whilst further developing their drawing and painting skills. This project is followed by a sculpture project where students use clay to create abstract 3D forms. Finally, students learn the fundamentals of portraiture beginning with a focus on facial features before moving on to proportion.
